Freedom of speech is the right to express information, ideas, and opinions free of government restrictions based on content and subject only to reasonable limitations.
Why should there be limits? In my opinion there is absolutely no need for limitations on freedom of speech. When insulting other people you take the risk of getting into trouble but that is everyones own business. People make fun of each other they will always do, and therefore there shouldn’t be restrictions or limitations.
I believe in freedom of speech and expression, but I also believe that along with that freedom comes the responsibility to use it wisely and carefully.
When we say things that are hurtful, things that outrage and hurt people, things that destroy civility and divide people or create enmity then we have come to that point were we have crossed an ethical line, regardless of its legality. Such comes from smug, arrogance and ignorance.
During the last year we had to fulfill 42 tasks as part of our English lessons including many kinds of different texts. Although it was obligatory and personally I did not want to write these texts I must admit having had some fun writing a few of them. Here are the three texts I most enjoyed writing and which are my favorites.
. My Path
My Path was one of the first texts we had to write for our blog. At first I did not want to write a story of about 400 words but in the end ended up writing even more. I generally enjoy writing fantasy stories and could hardly stop myself from extending it. After finishing it I was proud of me.
. The Worst Case Scenario
The worst case scenario was a project my english teacher came up with to strengthen our class community. We split in several groups consisting of four members. Each group was giving a survival scenario to write about. At first everyone in the group had to invent his own character Every group member had to write one text of about 500 words related to the others creating a story made up of four chapters each one from the perspective of ones character.
. A Little Story
A Little story was the first text we had to write for our blog and it is my favorite one. It is the combination of brutality and humor which makes it my favorite. I also had a lot of fun writing it and trying to create a gripping story.
Five things I want to achieve before finishing school
- Get more independent to make sure I am able to live alone after finishing school
- Keep my ability of not totally stressing myself out about important things I should do
- Know what I want to do in the future (including my job, where I want to live and how can I use my time wisely)
- Reach a height of 1,87 making me as big as my father
- Staying mentally and physically fit meaning doing sport on a regular base and challenging my brain with tasks I normally would not do
Famine in Africa
Millions of people are experiencing hunger and famine in Africa. A combination of conflict, recurring severe drought, and high food prices are to blame. For about 100,000 people in South Sudan, it’s so bad the United Nations officially declared famine. Large areas of Somalia are on the edge of famine, too. Millions of children in Africa are actually undernourished and do not have anything to eat. This means that people are starving to death right now. But how did it get so far?
It is the result of several disruptive events that have led the affected communities to where they are now. Many of the countries in the region also have struggled with extreme poverty for decades and lack basic infrastructure to help their struggling families. Instability for farmers in South Sudan, for example, hinders crop production. That limits what is available at the market and raises food prices. Poor families then can’t afford enough food to keep their children healthy, and eventually they need emergency help when they run out of money and food.
We now know that famine exist but what is famine? Famine is the absolute worst-case scenario, and not all food crises are actually considered famine. Famine is when a community’s food crisis has so little food anywhere that it causes large-scale starvation, malnutrition, and death.
Although so many people are dying of famine every day the world has seen a big progress in fighting famine. There are many organizations which are collecting money for the starving people to provide them with food and improve their standard of living.
As you know last year I stayed three months with you and your family in Perth. The weather was extremely hot and dry and we went to the beach every day. And as I promised you know that I am back in Austria I will send you an email about the climate here in Austria with some pictures.
I personally like the weather here in Austria and I would not wish to live somewhere else. The winters are very cold with temperatures down to -20 degrees and lots of snow. Whereas summers are very hot with temperatures up to 35 degrees and a lot of sunny days. In the changing seasons temperatures are mild and sun is rather rare. The only thing which I can complain about is the precipitation from which in my opinion we have too much here in Austria.
The pictures which I made myself are at the end of the email. Hope you and family are doing well!
Save the human race
No responsibilities, no planning, no stress, just living for the moment. For most people living for the day appears to be something very desirable. Sadly but true such a live is not available for the most and just very few are able to live such a life.
People that are living the moment will unfortunately not succeed in their jobs and lives. The best paid jobs, for example working as a top banker, need plenty of planning. When you have many meetings with customers, you have to plan your day. Therefore it is impossible to get a job like that when you are unorganized. You will also face social struggles for the reason of not being able to make an arrangement with other people. They will soon be angry with you for not arriving on time plus stop the contact with you. The world does not need lazy people.
It has highest importance we provide the on living of our species. In the future the world will face big troubles which will be very hard to solve. But to make sure the human race will not die out from now on we have to pan our lives. However that means everyone has to adapt and start planning his day.
The 21st century has begun
Man, though the ages has undergone many changes from the time when he drew a herd of mammoths on the walls of his cave to these days when he can create beautiful pictures and even make coffee by use of computer technologies without leaving his chair. The 20th century made huge steps in developing computer technologies and reached and invented many things which make our daily life easier. But what should we expect for the 21st century?
First of all, I think that the pace of our life speed up meaning we will move faster from one place to another, from one continent to another by using high speed airplanes. Second of all, I believe that we will be able to do many things take much more time now without leaving our house. Computers will be everywhere. Many people will have chips and mini computers inserted in their heads to hold huge amounts of information.
But what will be the most amazing thing in the 21st century are the flights to the outer space and Mars that will in the future be available for all people. Scientists say that Mars has many properties similar to the Earth´s.
Cars are automobiles that can transport people. It is the main means of travelling for hundreds of millions of people all over the world. Cars have changed the way we live probably more than any other invention in history. At first only a few people had cars but after a while more and more people bought them because they improved the way people lived. Farmers with cars were able to bring their products to places that were farther away. The appearance of cities and towns also changed. More and more workers drove to their jobs and people started to move to suburbs outside the town centers. Automobiles give people many jobs. Millions of people around the world work in factories where cars are produced. Millions more work at gas stations, restaurants or motels that travelers stop at. However, cars also cause problems. Millions of people die in car accidents every year. Automobiles pollute the air that we breathe and parking space in cities is scarce because everyone wants to use their cars to get to city centers.
In the late 1770s Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot, a French engineer, built a car that ran on steam. Many American companies also started producing them but they were very expensive to make and cost a lot of money. As time went on, engineers started experimenting with petrol-driven cars. They could travel faster and over longer distances. They were also safer than steam-powered models which ran with petroll. Towards the end of the 19 th century Germany became the centre of car-making. Nikolaus Otto built the first internal combustion engine, Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz also began building petrol-driven engines. Automobile production in the USA began in the 1890s. It was Henry Ford who started producing cars on an assembly line. Workers do only one task and car parts pass on a conveyer belt. By 1908 Ford’s Model T became the most popular car in the world and by 1927 the Ford Motor Company had produced over 15 million of them. After car production had slowed down during the two world wars car makers began adding new features to post – war models. Power steering, power brakes and automatic controls became common. More and more big cars were produced in the 1950s and 1960s. They used up a lot of fuel in a time in which oil was still very cheap. This changed in the 1970s when Arab oil-producing countries started to raise prices for oil because western countries supported Israel. In the years that followed much was done to try to save and conserve fuel. Automakers started producing compact cars that were fuel-efficient. In the meantime, Japan and Europe had begun to compete with American carmakers. By 1980 Japan became the largest car producing countries in the world.
The benefits of watching movies in the cinema are immense. Sitting in a cinema with your friends munching on popcorns and sipping your favourite smoothie as well as watching your favourite actors battle aliens in a larger than life frame can be really enjoing. You feel excited, scared, emotional and happy during those two and a half hours; you are transferred to a world away from reality and you enjoy every moment of it. As you walk out of the cinema doors, you feel refreshed, de-stressed and realize that you had, even for a few hours at least, forgotten about the troubles of day to day life.
Movies are made for theater viewing. The filmmaker’s vision, the sound engineers sound effects, all are designed to give a great experience in the theater.
Though we can watch movies even on our mobile phones today but we don’t get the cinematic experience which the movie is supposed to give us. Imagine if you watch Avatar on your phone, would you be equally spellbound as you were when you saw it in the theater?
Take any movie for that matter. Compare the theater experience and the TV or PC or Mobile Phone experience. The film makers are using the best available technology today to give us an astounding theater experience. These technologies aren’t compatible with our phones, PC or TVs.
Take IMAX for example. Movies shot in this format are best viewed in IMAX theaters. Now IMAX technology is not available in TV, Smart Phones or PCs.So, in a nutshell, the best way to watch a movie is in theaters.
Speaking a foreign language has become an essential part of our modern society. We need them in any part of our daily live especially in our jobs. Therefore it is important to learn them from very early on as a part of our education.
In the most schools it is compulsory to learn at least one foreign language. Besides that some schools also offer a student to study one year abroad. In this time a student will learn a lot about the language and the culture of their hosting country. Another ability in which students will improve is getting more independent. But before deciding to go a year abroad you should take some points into account.
Being without the help of your family members in a different country might create some troubles some students can not handle. Thus a student which attends a year abroad should already be relatively independent. Also he should be familiar with the language and able to hold basic conversations. Nevertheless not everyone will profit from it.
For example if you want to master a skilled manual work like a carpenter you should concentrate on other more important things for your career.
A student studying abroad will profit in many ways.
